Approx. 6.8' Moon Knight debuted in Werewolf by Night #32 (August 1975) as an enemy of the Werewolf in a two part story. Moon Knight proved popular with readers and Wereolves alike and was granted a solo spot in Marvel Spotlight #28-29 (1976) . Moon Knight then appeared in Spectacular Spider-Man the Defenders and the Hulk! Magazine. A new ongoing series was then launched titled Moon Knight. Born in Chicago Marc Spector is an American rabbi's wayward son (aren't they all). As an adult Spector spent his time as a boxer a U.S. Marine and even a gun for hire mercenary. He becomes a skilled combatant and makes a buddy out of French pilot Jean-Paul DuChamp (not to be confused with Jean Paul Valley the crazy guy who was Batman's stand in) whom he calls 'Frenchie'... though I don't know why. They both worked in Egypt for the African mercenary Raoul Bushman. While there in Egypt the group of killers stumble upon an archaeological site whose crew includes Dr. Peter Alraune and his daughter Marlene. The dig site had recently uncovered an ancient temple with intact artifacts that included a statue of Khonshu the Egyptian god. Intent on looting the dig Bushman kills Dr. Alraune. In response to Alraune's murder and having forgotten that he was a hired hitman/gun for hire/killer Spector suddenly becomes 'good' and challenges Bushman to personal combat (instead of shooting him in the back) but is beaten nearly to death (see what he gets for playing fair) and left to die in the sub-zero temperatures of the desert night. Roaming Egyptians (you remember the romans... they live in Italy well these are Roman Egyptians) who worship the ancient Egyptian gods find Spector and carry him to their temple. Helpless before the statue of Khonshu Spector's heart stops. Khonshu appears to him in a vision offering Spector a second chance at life if he becomes the god's avatar on earth. Spector awakens wraps himself with the silver cloth that covers the Khonshu's statue and again confronts Bushman (though he's still not ready to shoot him in the back). Spector defeats Bushman and returns to the US with Marlene Alraune (the daughter of the guy that was killed by the guy who hired Spector in the first place) Frenchie and the statue of Khonshu (apparantly lifted from the Italian Egyptians). Spector decides to become a crimefighter and creates a silver cloaked costume (that's not the brightest idea when fighting at night) based on the silver shroud and becomes the Moon Knight. There you have it.
